(Confirmed) Head of Business Development, Emirates Investment Services Ltd (EIS Asset Management)
Haroon possesses considerable experience, over 12 years in banking and finance. He has strong academic credentials, is a qualified chartered accountant from the UK and is currently in the process of obtaining his CFA qualification.
He joined EIS Asset Management in March 2007 and is currently the Head of Business Development. EIS Asset Management is the asset management arm for Emirates NBD, the largest financial institution in the Middle East. He has direct responsibility for fostering relationships with institutions, UHNWI and distribution channels outside the existing Group channels. In addition, he has direct responsibility for the development of the asset management
business in Saudi Arabia.
Previously he held the position of Vice-President, HSBC Amanah Wealth Management Product Development with HSBC Amanah (HSBC’s Islamic Financial Services division) in New York. His main responsibilities included, providing product ideas, structuring expertise, and project management of Shari’a-compliant solutions for HSBC’s high net-worth and institutional clients.
Further, he was responsible for building relationships with existing and new asset managers to develop Shari’a-compliant investment products and manage selected fund launch process within agreed timelines. He was closely involved with launching HSBC Amanah GCC Equity Fund and the Islamic SIS product (multi-manager equity programme managed by SEI) for HSBC Private Bank. In addition, he was charged with overseeing the HSBC Amanah Global Property Income Fund (the largest Shari’a-compliant real estate fund).
From 2003 to 2005 he held the position of Head of Strategy and Implementation at HSBC Amanah in Dubai. His main responsibilities included, working closely with the CEO and senior management of HSBC Amanah, in formulating a 3-year strategy plan under various growth and macroeconomic scenarios as well as identifying key product gaps within the businesses and presenting strategy papers on various HSBC Amanah businesses including Wealth Management, Insurance, UK and Middle East. In addition, he wrote a paper on setting up an Islamic legal entity
for HSBC Group.
After acquiring his ACA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, he joined as Assistant Audit Manager with HSBC Group Financial Services Audit in London from 2000 to 2003 where he was responsible for planning, coordinating and reporting on internal audit reviews of the HSBC Group private banking, asset management and insurance companies. This was a global remit, which covered HSBC Group companies in Hong Kong, UK, US, Brazil,
Singapore, Geneva, Monaco and Dubai.
He began his career with RSM Robson Rhodes in London where he worked from 1996 to 2000 as a Senior Audit Executive. His main responsibilities involved the planning and conducting of audits and preparation of statutory financial statements for a variety of clients ranging from manufacturing companies to investment trusts whilst managing teams of up to 10 members. He also spent 9 months in the Tax department where he was involved in corporation tax computations for financial services companies including unit trusts and investment trusts.
