Dhafer Alqahtani (Confirmed)

Dhafer Salih Alqahtani is The Managing Director and co-founder for a newly established Islamic fund company in Bahrain named; Darahim Capital. Prior to the creation of Darahim Capital, Mr. Alqahtani was the CEO of Arbah Global Gulf (Bahrain) and the CO-CEO & CIO of Arbah Capital (Saudi Arabia). There Mr. Alqahtani headed investment banking, corporate finance, and asset management, and was also in charge of developing the private equity business in the region. Mr. Alqahtani enjoyed over 23 years experience in both sharia-compliant and conventional banking, asset management, portfolio management, corporate finance, and originating and arranging debt and equity transactions along with mergers and acquisition and general advisory responsibilities. Most recently, From a corporate finance standpoint, Mr. Alqahtani focused on acquisitions, turnaround management, high-yield investments, strategic reorganization, reverse mergers, securitization, sukuk offerings, and green-field company projects, with transaction sizes from $60 million to $400 million in the telecom, recycling, food, shipping, banking and pharmaceutical industries. In his asset management capacity he oversaw alternative investment and mutual fund management and structuring, where recently he served as General Manager with Altawfeek Financial Group. While at Altawfeek Financial Group Mr. Alqahtani managed a globally diversified asset class portfolio with $868 million AUM—plus $657 million in proprietary AUM—in 2007, including direct investment, private equity, regional and international equity funds, leasing funds, and direct- and fund-owned real estate assets. During 2002 Mr. Alqahtani created and structured three private equity real estate funds with total assets of $540 million, Each earned an IRR in the lower twenty percent range. In 2005 he created 3 equity funds, one sector fund (an award winner for telecom funds) with a 3-year total return of 55% as of mid 2008, and two other Gulf and MENA funds that earned 3-year returns of 55%and 46%, respectively, as of mid 2008. In 2006 Mr. Alqahtani created the first sharia-complaint private equity fund in the region. During the past 9 years he managed 16 funds with AUM of $1.3 billion in different asset classes with different risk and return profiles. In addition to his transactional and structural experience, Mr. Alqahtani has significant board and directorship experience with several international and regional companies and funds. Before 2000 Mr. Alqahtani was a senior manager/vice president for 10 years, split between Samba Bank and Saudi Alfransi bank, where his responsibilities included managing total assets of $2.7 billion for multinational and international firms, originating and closing large debt financings, cash flow management, asset acquisition finance deals, and mezzanine finance transactions in several industries, including transactions in petrochemical, construction and manufacturing. His work involved financial analysis, credit and risk evaluation, debt structuring and asset securitization, in addition to syndication and book building. Mr. Alqahtani began his finance career in 1987 with Ernst &Young in the auditing and consulting area. Mr. Alqahtani has BBA in Economics & Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington.
